Chimney Removal Epsom, Surrey
Chimney removal that we carried out in Epsom, Surrey. One of our regular customers had given us a call regarding yellow water staining appearing on the chimney breast inside their property.
Once we had carried out a full inspection, the lead back gutter was found to be in very good condition. Our damp meter was used to test the brickwork, which was found to be very porous. Along with one chimney pot being blocked off, causing the chimney to sweat on the inside. Years ago this was never a problem with many homes using solid fuel fires drawing any moisture build up out throughout the winter months.
Once we had arranged for our regular scaffolding contractor to construct a safe working platform with appropriate hand rails.
We set to work on safely removing the chimney by hand. The chimney was safely removed to below-roof level allowing us to felt and batten the area in. Thankfully we were able to source reclaimed matching roof tiles. The area was tiled in, fitting an appropriate roof tile vent allowing the chimney breast to vent through trickle vents inside the property and out through the roof tile vent.
This is something very common and usually left unnoticed until staining or patches appear on the ceiling or walls. Failing lead back gutters, step flashing, soakers or porous bricks are the most common usually within the winter months.
We can provide a full service here at Refine Property Maintenance. From new chimney lead work to full chimney removal. We would always advise to remove the chimney in properties where the chimney is no longer used, this takes away the need to maintain the chimney in the future.
